Wierschlesche , German also Wi [e] rchlesch [e] , Polish Wierchlesie , is a place in Upper Silesia in the municipality of Himmelwitz (Jemielnica) in the Powiat Strzelecki in the Opole Voivodeship .

The village is north-east of the municipality of Himmelwitz .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1282. On April 17, 1361 the place was mentioned as Wierchles .
In the referendum on March 20, 1921, 53 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 164 for Poland. Nonetheless, Wierchlesch remained with the German Empire. In 1933 there were 382 inhabitants in Wierchlesch.
In the course of the National Socialist renaming of the place, the Slavic-sounding Wierchlesch was renamed Hohenwalde OS on May 8, 1934 . Hohenwalde is a corresponding translation of the previous place name. In 1939 there were 395 inhabitants in Hohenwalde.
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Wierchlesie . In 1950 Wierchlesch was assigned to the Opole Voivodeship and in 1999 to the re-established Powiat Strzelecki . In November 2008, the place was also given the official German place name Wierschlesche .
