history

The Petersgrätz colony was founded in 1832 as a dead straight street village by 60 colonists from Friedrichsgrätz . Petersgrätz was a branch of the local Bohemian Brethren (Hussites). Petersgrätz was named after Pastor Peter Schikora, who was actively involved in founding the town. A Protestant school was opened in 1841, which was replaced by a new building in 1882, and a Protestant church followed in 1892.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia in 1921, 639 residents voted for Germany and 169 for Poland - Petersgrätz remained in the German Reich.

In 1939 Petersgrätz had 1525 inhabitants. 1225 were Protestant, the rest were Catholic.

In 1945 72 families were sent to the labor camp in Błotnica Strzelecka (Blottnitz). In 1945 most of the residents were expelled and Poles were resettled from the towns of Biłka Królewska and Radotycz, which had fallen under the Soviet Union. The place was first renamed Piotrogród , later the place name was changed to Piotrówka . The now Catholic local population took over the Protestant church, and in 1946 a separate parish Piotrówka was founded.

In November 2008 the German place name Petersgrätz also became official.
