Viktor Hryhorowytsch Barjachtar ( Ukrainian Віктор Григорович Бар'яхтар , Russian Виктор Григорьевич Барьяхтар / Viktor Grigorievich Barjachtar * 9. August 1930 in Mariupol , † 25. August 2020 ) was a Ukrainian state physicist and university teacher .

Life

Barjachtar, son of the teachers Grigor Fjodorowitsch Barjachtar and Anna Dmitrijewna geb. Paranitsch, graduated from Kharkov University in 1953. 1954–1973 he worked at the Kharkov Physics and Technology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (AN-USSR) and in 1978 he became a member of the Academy

1973–1982 Barjachtar headed the theory department of the Donetsk Physics and Technology Institute (DonFTI) of the AN-USSR (later Donetsk AA Galkin -Physik-und-Technik-Institut). In addition, he was deputy director of the institute from 1975 to 1978 and in 1978 became chairman of the Donetsk Science Center.

In 1982 Barjachtar Academy Secretary of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the AN-USSR (until 1989), Vice-President in 1989 and First Vice-President of the AN-U in 1994. In 1985 he became director of the Institute of Metal Physics of the AN-USSR (until 1989) and head of the department of theoretical physics. Also in 1985 he was appointed to the Chair of Mathematics and Theoretical Radiation Physics at the University of Kiev .

In 1995 Barjachtar founded the institute for magnetism of the AN-U on the basis of the department for theoretical physics and physics of thin layers of the institute for metal physics , of which he became director. 1997–2007 he was dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI) .

Barjachtar's main research interests were magnetism , metal physics, plasma physics and superconductivity . Together with AI Achijeser he discovered magnetoacoustic resonance , which was registered in the inventions register of the Soviet Union in 1956 .
