Viktor Chernov

Viktor Chernov ( Russian Виктор Михайлович Чернов , scientific. Transliteration Viktor Michajlovič Černov ; born November 19 . Jul / 1. December  1873 greg. In Kamyshin in Saratov province , † 15. April 1952 in New York ), pseudonyms July Gardenin. , W. Tsch. Tutschkin and Boris Olenin , was the founder of the Social Revolutionary Party and Minister of Agriculture in the Provisional Government in Russia .

Life

Chernov was active as a revolutionary in Russia from 1893. He wrote the party program of the Social Revolutionary Party and founded the party in 1902. In the party he was a member of the Central Committee and from 1902 to 1905 was the editor of the organ of the party, the newspaper Revoljuzionnaja Rossija (Revolutionary Russia). He was also on the editorial staff of the Delo Naroda newspaper .

After the February Revolution of 1917 , he became Minister of Agriculture in the 1st and 2nd Coalitions of the Provisional Government and introduced twelve draft laws on the agricultural question, none of which were discussed. After the October Revolution he stood as a leader against the Bolsheviks . In January 1918 he became chairman of the constituent assembly .

From June to October 1918 he headed the membership committee of the Constituent Assembly ( Komutsch ) in Samara and organized actions against the Bolsheviks. In 1920 he emigrated abroad, from where he continued to act against the Bolsheviks.
