Johann Wilderich Maria Othmar Hubertus Graf von und zu Bodman (born December 12, 1936 in Möggingen ) is a German entrepreneur and local politician ( CDU ). Since 1976 he is the noble house Bodman as chief ago.

Life

Wilderich was born in 1936 at Möggingen moated castle as the eldest of three brothers from the Freiherr family Nikolaus (1903–1988) and Baroness Monika von und zu Bodman (1907–1992), née Countess von Spee. After his uncle, Johannes Graf von und zu Bodman (1899–1976), the older brother of his father Nikolaus, remained childless and thus without a successor, Wilderich was adopted by him.

He first studied agriculture with a focus on fruit growing and then business administration in Bonn and Hohenheim. He then completed a year of practical experience in the USA. He has been working for the family business since 1968, initially at the side of his uncle, and after his death in 1976 as head of the noble house. Under him, the indebted family business with almost entirely leased land has developed into a lucrative forestry and agricultural business with fruit growing, distillery and winery. The surpluses generated flowed mainly into the administration and maintenance of the listed Bodman property. Several properties that were too expensive to maintain, unprofitable to use or difficult to renovate due to monument protection were sold. In 2006 he handed over the management to his son, Freiherr Johannes von und zu Bodman , the eldest of four siblings.

Von Bodman is a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany . In 1971 he was elected to the district council of the Stockach district. After its dissolution during the district reform in 1973 , the district councils of the newly created Stockach administrative community were transferred to the district council of the district of Constance . He was also a member of the municipal council in Bodman-Ludwigshafen from 1975 to 1994.

After von Bodman was President of the Hegau History Association from 1992 to 2018 , he was appointed honorary president of the association on January 25, 2018. He is a board member of the Association of the Nobility in Baden, honorary chairman of the Bodman sailing club and the Stockach yacht club, but is also involved in other local associations.
