Wilfried Helmstädter

Wilfried Helmstädter (born March 19, 1930 in Calw ; † June 17, 2006 ) was a German economist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Helmstädter was born on March 19, 1930 in Calw into a social democratic family of politicians. His father Fritz Helmstädter (1904–1971) was a member of the state parliament in Württemberg-Baden and Baden-Württemberg from 1947 to 1968 , his grandfather Julius Helmstädter (1879–1945), who perished in a concentration camp, was a member of the state parliament in Baden from 1932/33 .

After graduating from high school, Helmstädter began studying economics, which he completed in 1953 with an examination for a degree in economics. From 1960 he worked as a tax advisor in Stuttgart-Wangen . In addition, he was active in the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), was district chairman of AWO North Württemberg from 1989 to 1992 and chairman of AWO Baden-Württemberg in 1991/92. Since 1989 he has also been chairman of the supervisory board of the Stuttgart building and home building association.

Wilfried Helmstädter was married and had four daughters.

Helmstädter had been a member of the Stuttgart municipal council since 1962, where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1969 to 1972. He was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament from 1972 to 1980. He was involved in the Stuttgart regional association , where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1973 to 1994 and deputy chairman of the association from 1986 to 1994.
