Wilfried Rödiger

Wilfried Rödiger (born October 4, 1937 in Tangermünde ; † January 14, 2016 ) was a German cardiologist .

Life

Wilfried Roediger visited in Braunschweig which until 1958 Gaußschule . He studied medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg , at the University of Basel and at the University of Hamburg , where he in July 1967 with a thesis on the subject of studies on the absorption of calcium and magnesium in seawater inhalations for Dr. med. PhD. On March 20, 1965, he married Karin Ziesche from Brunswick.

He began his professional career in the circulation laboratory at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). In 1969, Wilfried Rödiger achieved the first Eppendorfer left heart catheter examination and the first transfer of a transvenous pacemaker electrode ; In 1977 he received the Venia Legendi for internal medicine on the subject of circulatory behavior in dissociated brain death . From 1983 to 2002 he was professor (§ 17 HmbHG) for internal medicine - cardiology at the University of Hamburg.

Together with Niels Bleese , Rödiger carried out the first heart transplant in Hamburg in 1984 . In this context, Rödiger was also involved in the implementation of a study published in 1992 which questioned the benefits of heart transplantation compared to conservative therapy and thus caused a sensation outside the medical community for years.

Hamburg heart valve scandal

In 2001/2002, Wilfried Rödiger had to answer before the Grand Criminal Chamber of the Hamburg Regional Court on charges of accepting benefits from Medtronic . The trial ended in an acquittal.
