Wilhelm Alef (born June 25, 1882 in Annen , † November 11, 1957 in Hagen ) was a Christian trade unionist, politician, member of the Reichstag and the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia ( center , CDU ).

Life and work

Alef initially worked as a steel former and in 1905 joined the Christian Metalworkers' Association (CMV), which was very strongly anchored in the Ruhr area. In 1908 Alef became head of the Annen CMV administration office.

From 1914 to 1917, the trade unionist took part in the First World War until he was released because of a serious wound. From 1921 to 1933 Alef acted as CMV district manager for Siegerland and Sauerland , based in Hagen. The National Socialists removed the center man in 1933 from all his offices. The now unemployed trade unionist worked from 1933 to 1945 as an insurance agent and candle dealer. In addition, he had had a temporary position at the Catholic church tax office in Hagen since 1940.

In mid-1945 he was commissioned by the mayor of Hagen and the district administrator of Schwelm to reorganize the trade union system in the Hagen and Ennepe-Ruhr districts . In 1945 in Altena he was one of the founders of the Westphalian Federation of Trade Unions , the forerunner of the later DGB in the British zone of occupation . Alef became district manager of IG Metall for Southeast Westphalia and the Bergisches Land .

politics

As a staunch Catholic, Alef joined the Center Party in 1903, for which he was a member of the city council in Hagen from 1919 to 1933. As a replacement for the Center Party, he was a member of the now uninfluential Reichstag from June 21, 1933 to November 1933 as a representative of constituency 18 (Westphalia-South). In addition, Alef was a member of the Westphalian Provincial Parliament from 1930 to 1933 .

After the war, the trade unionist was one of the founders of the CDU in Hagen. In 1946 he joined the CDU state executive committee in Westphalia. Alef sat for the party from October 2, 1946 to June 17, 1950 in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also involved in the Westphalian Provincial Parliament in 1946 and was on the Hagen city council from 1946 to 1956.
