Wilhelm Argauer

Wilhelm Argauer (also: Wilhelm Aargauer; * 1863 in Vienna ; † February 28, 1904 in Vienna) was an Austro-German conductor , music teacher and composer .

Life

Wilhelm Argauer came from a family from Währing . He studied at the Vienna Conservatory. In 1876, at the age of 13, he received his first student at the Conservatory, whom he taught within eight months to pass the Conservatory entrance examination with great success . In 1878 he was a member of the orchestra in Josefstadt and then came as a flautist in the chapel of Baron Nathaniel Meyer von Rothschild and went on a concert tour with them to London. There they played in front of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland . From 1880 to 1884 he directed the chapel himself. In 1884 he became Kapellmeister at the Theater in der Josefstadt . From 1887 to 1888 he was choirmaster of the Döblinger men's choir. On March 5, 1888, the Döblinger men's choir under the direction of Argauer organized the first statutory recital in the Zögernitz casino . It was Argauer's debut with the Döblingern. On April 18, 1888, the posse was Wo ist der Frack? premiered in the Fürsttheater im kk Prater, where it was on the program almost every day until May 10th. On July 12th, 1888, the Döblinger male choir organized a summer song evening under Argauer's direction in the garden of the Casino Zögernitz. At the general meeting of the Döblinger men's choir on January 5, 1888, Argauer was confirmed as choirmaster. On March 16 and May 12, 1889, he organized two more statutory recitals with the Döblinger Männergesangverein . From 1889 he was second conductor at the Deutsches Volkstheater for six years . Argauer became the owner of a music school. On February 14, 1902, the Vienna Volks-Symphonie-Orchester-Verein was founded, of which Argauer was a founding member. He became conductor of the orchestra and, in addition to other concerts, conducted the four regular concerts of the first concert season. On October 25, 1902, he conducted the first concert in the Zögernitz casino in Döbling in Vienna. The program included Patrie, Overture dramatique, by Georges Bizet , the 1st Violin Concerto in G minor by Max Bruch with the soloist, the concertmaster of the orchestra Alfred Schotter, and the 2nd Symphony by Josef Haydn as the overture The bat by Johan Strauss and the waltz silk and velvet from the operetta The Foreign Legionnaire by Carl Michael Ziehrer . The second concert followed on December 4, 1902, and the third on January 8. The fourth concert in the concert series followed on March 12, 1903 under his direction. He died on February 28, 1904 after an operation in a hospital in Vienna. The Wiener Volksblatt stated that the cause of death was blood decomposition .

The musical director of the performance was Capellmeister James Clement from Munich. In an advance notice, the Deutsche Volksblatt wrote on April 29, 1896 that Argauer had written very nice music about it.
