Wilhelm Bröker (born February 6, 1848 in Berlin , † July 25, 1933 in Bad Kösen ) was a German landscape painter and draftsman .

Life

Bröker came to painting through woodcuts , which he studied with Moritz Müller in Berlin, and lithography around 1880 . As a landscape painter, he painted detailed atmospheric landscapes in oil , pastel , charcoal and chalk, which are stylistically assigned to the paysage intimate . He also created etchings of such motifs. From 1870 Bröker was represented at the exhibitions of the Berlin Academy and was a member of the Association of Berlin Artists . From 1907 Bröker was based in Kösen.

Bröker's works are in the Berlin Nationalgalerie , in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin , in the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, in the Nissenhaus Husum and in the Museum Romanisches Haus Bad Kösen , which has a collection of his works.

On November 4, 2018, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann and for the most part filmed in Reinbek Castle . In it, two small-format landscape paintings by Bröker with the title Am Abend und An der Waldhütte from 1891 were discussed with the painting expert Ariane Skora . Both pictures had the same frame. At previous auctions, small-format pictures of him were auctioned, which also had the same frames (as those in the show).
