Wilhelm Hein (Orientalist)
Wilhelm Hein (born January 7, 1861 in Vienna ; † November 19, 1903 ibid) was an Austrian linguist, folklorist , orientalist and ethnographer .
Life
Together with Michael Haberlandt , with whom he worked in the anthropological-ethnographic department of the Natural History Museum , he founded the Society for Folklore in 1894 , the Journal for Austrian Folklore in 1895 and the Museum for Folklore in Vienna in the same year . 1901-02 he went on a research trip to southern Arabia and Yemen . The materials collected there in field research became the basis of his most important publication on Mehri and Hadrami texts.
In 1903 the Heingasse in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
