Wilhelm Hejda (born May 26, 1868 in Vienna ; † January 19, 1942 there ) was an Austrian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Wilhelm Hejda was the son of an art locksmith. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Caspar von Zumbusch . He then worked in Paris from 1891 to 1892 with Lefebvre and Deloye and from 1892 to 1894 in Budapest . Then he returned to Vienna, where he stayed until his death. From 1900 to 1912 Hejda was a member of the Hagenbund .

He had two sons, Willy and Franz Hejda, who were both painters and sculptors and lived in the United States .

Wilhelm Hejda painted pastels (portraits and landscapes) and created medals. Most important, however, are his work as a sculptor, where he made decorative art nouveau sculptures on numerous buildings in Vienna .
