Wilhelm Huxhorn

Wilhelm Huxhorn (born September 20, 1955 - † April 15, 2010 ) was a German football player . The goalkeeper was active for SV Darmstadt 98 for eight years in the second division .

Career

Huxhorn played for Germania Pfungstadt and switched to Darmstadt 98's second team in 1981 . From the amateurs he moved up to the second division squad in 1984 . Under coach Lothar Kleim he was initially the second goalie behind Frank Berlepp . On August 28, 1984, at the age of almost 29, he was on the professional team for the first time behind the experienced defenders Karl-Heinz Emig and Rolf Dohmen between the posts. Opponent was 1. FC Saarbrücken , who took the lead thanks to a penalty from Stefan Jambo ; Substitute young striker Bruno Labbadia saved SV 98 from a draw. Huxhorn remained number one in Darmstadt for the next 30 games this season under Kleim's successor Udo Klug .

On matchday 20, April 27, 1985, Huxhorn scored a goal for Darmstadt 98 at Fortuna Cologne from 102 meters away, which earned him an entry in the Guinness Book of Records : After his tee shot, the ball flew well into the opposing half, jumped up just before the penalty area of ​​Cologne and over the goalkeeper of Fortuna, Robert Hemmerlein , to 0: 1 into the goal; Fortuna Köln won the game 4-2.

In the 1986/87 season Huxhorn was fourth in the second division with his team. He remained - apart from the 1988/89 season, in which Darmstadt 98 reached the relegation games with Rainer Berg - until 1992 the regular goalkeeper of the lilies. He made his last of 214 second division games for Darmstadt in Unterhaching on August 16, 1992 at the age of almost 37. There were also seven appearances in the DFB Cup , including the 1-0 defeat against eventual cup winners Hamburger SV in the quarter-finals in 1987 , in which substitute Manfred Kastl was only able to overcome him in the 88th minute.

After the active time

After he had finished his professional career, Huxhorn worked as a swimming master in Pfungstadt . On the side he played occasionally at TSV Pfungstadt in the regional league and later at Germania Pfungstadt in the old men’s team. He was also active for a long time in the traditional SV Darmstadt 98 team.

Huxhorn fought against leukemia for many years . He succumbed to the disease on April 15, 2010.
