Wilhelm Johannes Vierling (born September 12, 1889 in Nossen ; † September 22, 1956 in Leipzig ) was a German lawyer and in 1945 mayor of the city of Leipzig for almost three months.

Career

Johannes Vierling was the son of the true pastor Wilhelm Vierling . After graduating from the König-Albert-Gymnasium , Vierling began studying law at the University of Leipzig . In 1908 he became a member of the Corps Budissa . In 1913 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. After the Great State Examination in Law, Vierling worked as a lawyer and notary . In the Weimar Republic he was a member of the German National People's Party . He was a chairman of the bar association . Immediately after Leipzig was taken by the US Army on April 18, 1945, Vierling was appointed mayor of the district by the city commander, Major Eaton. In the following months he began to build a new city administration. On the part of the Leipzig communists there was resistance to the appointment of the German national quadruplets. For example, at the end of June 1945, leaflets called for his resignation. After Leipzig was taken over by the Red Army at the beginning of July 1945, Vierling was recalled by the new military commander of the city, Lieutenant General Nikolai Ivanovich Trufanow , effective July 16, 1945, and Erich Zeigner was appointed mayor.

After his recall, Vierling initially worked for some time as a legal advisor in the Leipzig city administration. He then worked as a lawyer until 1956. His appointment as a notary was to be withdrawn after the decision of the Denazification Commission of the State of Saxony on January 30, 1947. However, in lengthy negotiations, Vierling was able to prevent this and continue to work as a notary.
