Hans Erich Uhlich (born December 13, 1915 in Rabenstein ; † March 13, 2007 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1951 to 1959 he was Lord Mayor of Leipzig .

Life

The son of a glove maker learned the trade of a printer after finishing elementary school from 1930 to 1934 . He then worked in the profession. From 1930 he was a member of the SAJ and the Association of Book Printers . During the Second World War he did military service in the Wehrmacht .

In 1945 he joined the newly founded SPD and became deputy mayor in his home town of Rabenstein near Chemnitz . In 1947 he moved to the district leadership of the SED in Chemnitz, where he worked as a local political employee. After attending the party college , Uhlich acted from December 1948 to October 1951 as first secretary of the SED district leadership in Chemnitz (successor to Horst Sindermann ) and was a city councilor in 1950/1951. From 1948 to 1952 he was also a member of the SED regional leadership in Saxony .

On October 10, 1951, Uhlich was elected Lord Mayor of Leipzig. During his tenure, Leipzig became a district town (1952), the events of June 17, 1953, and the construction and opening of the central stadium (1956).

On December 5, 1959, Uhlich was released from the office of Lord Mayor. As Lord Mayor from 1951 to 1955, he was a member of the SED city administration office. From 1952 to 1960 he was also a member of the SED district leadership in Leipzig .

From 1952 to 1954 he was a member of the Leipzig District Assembly, from 1954 to 1963 a member of the People's Chamber and a member of the Legal Committee. On July 2, 1960, he was appointed director of the newly created Institute for Communal Economics in Dresden . He later lived as a veteran in Karl-Marx-Stadt and was a member of the history commission of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt.
