Karl-Heinz Müller (born October 24, 1918 in Dresden , † July 28, 1987 in Leipzig ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1970 to 1986 he was Lord Mayor of Leipzig .

Life

Müller, a clerk by trade, was employed in a wholesaler in Dresden from 1938. When the Second World War broke out , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht .

After his release from captivity , Müller joined the SED in 1946 . He worked at the Dresden Labor Court and at the Office for Employment and Careers Advice at the Leipzig District Council. He studied law and became a qualified lawyer . From 1952, Müller took on leading positions in the Leipzig District Council, including from 1965 to 1970 as chairman of the District Economic Council. At the same time he was a member of the office or the secretariat of the SED district leadership. Until February 1986 he remained a member of the SED district leadership. From 1967 he was a member of the Leipzig district assembly.

In 1965 Müller was at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with the investigation "Securing the most rational use of workers in the territorial area of ​​responsibility of the local organs of state power through the further development of the tasks, position and working methods of the offices for work and career advice in the new economic system of the Planning and management of the national economy " to the Dr. rer. oec. PhD.

On April 16, 1970, Müller took up the post of Mayor of Leipzig as the successor to Walter Kresse . During his almost 16-year term in office, the foundation stone was laid for the GDR's largest new building area in Grünau (1976), the redesign of the Inner Westvorstadt and the Leutzsch district, and the opening of the New Gewandhaus and the new university building (1981). From 1970 to January 18, 1986 he was a member of the secretariat of the SED city leadership in Leipzig.

On January 20, 1986, Müller resigned from the office of Lord Mayor, which was then taken over by Bernd Seidel .
