Wilhelm Kirch

Wilhelmskirch (* 4. July 1947 in Cologne , † 7. July 2015 ) was a German university professor, clinical pharmacologist , internist , nephrologist , care researchers , health researchers and dentist .

Life

Kirch studied dentistry and medicine in Mainz from 1967 to 1974 . He received his doctorate in medicine in 1974 and in dentistry in 1976. From 1975 he worked as an assistant doctor at the I. Medical University Clinic in Mainz. There he was recognized as a specialist in internal medicine in 1981 and in the nephrology branch in 1982. In the same year he moved to the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic of the University of Essen , where he was appointed senior physician in 1983. Also in 1983, Kirch completed his habilitation on the pharmacokinetics of atenolol at the University of Essen . On April 1, 1986, the University of Essen appointed him to a C2 professorship for internal medicine. From 1986 to 1993 Kirch worked as a senior physician at the I. Medical University Clinic in Kiel . In 1988 he was first certified as a specialist there, and later he was granted further training authorization from the Schleswig-Holstein State Medical Association for the subject of clinical pharmacology. On May 1, 1993, Kirch was appointed to the chair for clinical pharmacology and therapy at the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology of the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Dresden . Under his leadership, a total of five candidates completed their training to become specialists in clinical pharmacology. His retirement took place on September 30, 2014.

From 1994 to 1997 Kirch served as vice dean, from 1997 to 1999 as dean of the medical faculty of the TU Dresden . Since 1993 he has acted as spokesman for the board of the BMBF research association Public Health Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt . In 1994 he initiated the postgraduate master's program in Public Health at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden.

Kirch was President of the German Society for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology from 2009 to 2012 , Vice President of the German Society for Public Health and Chairman of the Board of the German Association for Health Sciences and Public Health from 1996 to 2005. In 2003 Kirch was elected President of the European Public Health Association . He was also the editor of the magazine Prevention & Health Promotion , which he founded in 2005. At the same time he was editor-in-chief of the English-language journal Journal of Public Health .

As a long-term member, Kirch was also involved in the specialist commission for clinical pharmacology of the Federal Government's Science Council, in the expert committee at the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices , in the drug commissions of the German medical profession and the German Chamber of Dentists .

With the regional drug advice service for doctors, which has existed since 1995 at the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology of the TU Dresden, and the nationwide drug advice service for patients established there since 2001, Kirch set standards in the provision of industry-independent drug information for target groups.

Kirch was the author of over 600 original publications as well as the author and editor of 53 specialist books.
