Wilhelm Klocke

Wilhelm Klocke (born September 11, 1923 in Hanover ; † May 27, 2012 in Bremen ) was a German architect .

biography

Wilhelm Klocke grew up as the son of a furniture manufacturer in Bremen- Burg , attended the Grambker elementary school and until 1939 the Oberrealschule des Westens . After secondary school, he actually wanted to become an interior designer, but first completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and then went to the technical center . After the beginning of the Second World War he was deferred from military service and was able to continue studying until he was drafted in 1942 and then assigned to the German Africa Corps . He was taken prisoner of war and was sent to a camp in Texas . In 1946 Klocke returned to Bremen, where he continued his studies and graduated in 1948 as a structural engineer . He was particularly active in the reconstruction of the west of Bremen, which had been badly damaged by the bombing.

In 1951, Klocke founded his own architectural office in Bremen. In 1954 he was publicly appointed as an expert in building construction . In addition to working as a freelance architect, he was mainly active as a building expert and as an appraiser for the appraisal of land and buildings, where he became active and known beyond Bremen. In addition, he was involved in professional work. From 1972 to 1984 he was the first president of the Bremen Chamber of Architects , which he campaigned intensively for the establishment of. In addition, he was Vice President of the Federal Chamber of Architects from 1973 to 1976 and during this time played a key role in improving the fee structure for architects and engineers (HOAI). He worked in numerous committees, was active in several expert committees and campaigned for the training and further education of his professional colleagues in the Chamber of Architects.

Klocke had been a member of the Herder Freemason Lodge in Bremen since 1952 and was temporarily its master of the chair . From 1984 to 1994 he headed the Lower Saxon People's Association  - Bremer Heimatbund from 1904. He took an active part in the Lower Saxony Round of 1900 . He was also active as a patron of the arts and supported with his Wilhelm Klocke Foundation a . a. the Kunsthalle Bremen with various donations of works of art. Klocke was a member of the Kunstverein Bremen as well as a board, committee and honorary member of the Bremer Bürgerparkverein and was a member of the administrative board of Sparkasse Bremen from 1981 to 1996 .

In 1999, he entered into a partnership with the architect Andree Sachmerda, and his office has now operated under the name of independent architects and experts Klocke + Partner . In 2010 Klocke retired for reasons of age and the office was taken over by Sachmerda alone. Klockes Büro provided architectural services for numerous construction projects, especially in Bremen, ranging from “single-family houses, office buildings, post offices and schools to the restoration of the dairy farm and forest stage in the [Bremer] Bürgerpark and the Wienerhof in the [Bremer] Ostertor ”.

Klocke published several specialist books and numerous specialist articles.

Honors

  • In 1984 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
  • In 1993 he received the Ernst Rudorff plaque of honor from the Lower Saxon People's Association - Bremer Heimatbund .
