Karl Georg Josef Wilhelm Kniest (born April 11, 1863 in Hamburg , † August 10, 1951 in Kassel ) was a German politician ( DDP , DStP).

Life

Kniest attended the foundation school in Hamburg from 1815 , then completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Hildesheim and later passed the master's examination. From 1889 to 1914 he worked as an independent master carpenter in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and was the head master of the Kassel carpenter's guild, of which he was appointed honorary master in 1920. In addition, he was chairman of the Kassel guild committee for over 20 years. In the meantime he worked for the employers' protection association for the German timber industry in Berlin . In addition, he was a member of the Presidium of the Hanseatic League for Trade, Commerce and Industry .

Kniest joined the German Democratic Party (DDP) during the Weimar Republic . In the Reichstag election in June 1920 he was elected to the German Reichstag , to which he belonged until 1924. In December 1924 he was elected to the Prussian state parliament as a state proposal by the DDP . Until the end of the third legislative period in 1932 he was a member of parliament, after the party was renamed in 1930 as a member of the German State Party (DStP).

Honors

On January 15, 1951, Kniest was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Kassel.
