Former department store of the consumer association in Lübeck (2019)

Wilhelm Lenschow was born as the second son of the village mayor Joachim Heinrich Lenschow and his wife Engel Elisabeth Lenschow. Kassow was born in Blüssen in Mecklenburg . After completing his studies, he worked for Hubert Stier in Hanover and under Albert Erbe for the state building administration in Hamburg . Before the First World War , he founded an architectural office (Lenschow & Runge) in Lübeck with Alfred Runge . Together they realized numerous residential and commercial buildings. From 1928 to 1930, the Runge & Lenschow office in Lübeck am Klingenberg created the department store of the consumer association - later Kaufhaus am Klingenberg (GeG) - in the form of brick expressionism . During the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 , the interior burned out completely; the building itself has been preserved to this day thanks to its reinforced concrete structure.

In addition to his work in the Lübeck area, Wilhelm Lenschow also remained connected to the Principality of Ratzeburg . He was involved in the Heimatbund and published articles on rural building. From 1921 to 1933 he was a consulting architect for the Schönberg city administration. He died unmarried and was buried in the family grave in the cemetery in Lübsee .
