Wilhelm Ludwig, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen (born August 3, 1638 - April 13, 1665 ) from the house of the Askanians was the ruling Prince of Anhalt-Köthen .

Life

Wilhelm Ludwig was the youngest son of Prince Ludwig I and his second wife Sophie zur Lippe. After the death of his father in 1650 , Wilhelm Ludwig became Prince of Anhalt-Köthen. His uncle, August von Anhalt-Plötzkau, ruled the principality as guardian until 1653 . After his death in 1653, his sons Lebrecht and Emanuel took over this function until Wilhelm Ludwig came of age in 1659 .

He was accepted as a member of the Literary Fruitful Society under the company name Der Erlangende .

On August 25, 1663 , Wilhelm Ludwig married Princess Elisabeth Charlotte von Anhalt-Harzgerode . However, the marriage remained childless.

The young prince died in 1665 and was buried in the prince's crypt in the St. Jakobskirche in Köthen . With him, the Anhalt-Köthen line became extinct . It fell to Anhalt-Plötzkau , but kept its name.
