Wilhelm Pfeiffer (geologist)

Wilhelm Pfeiffer (* 6. May 1888 in Heilbronn , † 10. August 1939 ) was a German geologist and teacher .

Life

Pfeiffer spent childhood and youth in his hometown Heilbronn. After graduating from high school, he studied natural sciences in Tübingen and Stuttgart. After the exams for the higher teaching post he received his doctorate in 1914 with a geological thesis (About the Gipskeuper in northern Württemberg) . Seriously wounded as a soldier in the First World War on August 30, 1914 near St. Dié in the Vosges Mountains , after a lengthy recovery he taught at the Zeppelin-Oberrealschule and the Reform-Realgymnasium in Stuttgart from 1916. In addition, he published geological treatises and maps and was involved in various associations such as the teachers' association for natural history, the Black Forest association and the Federation for Homeland Protection in Württemberg and Hohenzollern . His organizational skills and his leadership qualities are emphasized on numerous geological training trips that he carried out throughout Germany. On such a study trip , which Pfeiffer had organized on August 10, 1939 for the German Palaeontological Society to Münster am Neckar and Steinheim , he died in a car accident after visiting the Lausterchen travertine works .

Pfeiffer was NSDAP -member and as such circular section Walter of the Stuttgart Office for educators .

In the struggle led by Ludwig Finckh to stop basalt mining on the Hohenstoffeln , he explained "in many reports the uniqueness of the mountain" and demonstrated that "protecting the mountain is a necessity, even a German duty."
