Wilhelm Pleikard Ludwig von Gemmingen
Wilhelm Pleikard Ludwig von Gemmingen (born May 20, 1823 in Karlsruhe , † July 29, 1903 there ) was a German officer . From 1855 he was part of the retinue of Prince Wilhelm von Baden and later held the highest offices at his court.
Life
He was a son of August Karl Franz Johann von Gemmingen (1792-1870) and Amalia von Gemmingen-Hornberg (1801-1865). He attended the Lyceum in Karlsruhe and studied in Heidelberg and Berlin. In 1848 he volunteered in the 1st bath. Margrave Max Dragoon Regiment. When the Baden Revolution broke out, he was a member of the escort that accompanied the grand ducal family to Germersheim. Then in May 1849 he was among the troops of General Hoffmann, who after a march to Fürfeld and Bonfeld , old possessions of the barons of Gemmingen, were looking to join the Württemberg troops. The company turned into a fiasco, a Baden captain shot himself in the garden of the Bonfeld lower castle , the Baden soldiers only managed to escape from Bonfeld under the protection of the Heilbronn vigilante group. Wilhelm then went to Ludwigsburg and on to Frankfurt am Main. After the suppression of the revolution he came to the cavalry depot in Bruchsal in September 1849, and in 1850 he was appointed lieutenant in the 3rd Baden Dragoon Regiment. In 1855 he accompanied Prince Wilhelm von Baden to the coronation of the tsar in St. Petersburg. He remained in the prince's entourage and in 1860 transferred from military service to court service as chamberlain. In 1861 he became court marshal , in 1872 court marshal and in 1881 lord of the chamberlain. He was awarded numerous medals for his services.
