Wilhelm Ruhkopf (born August 5, 1951 in Hildesheim ) is a German local politician ( SPD ) and was mayor of the Lower Saxony medium- sized town of Soltau from 2006 to 2014 .

Life

Ruhkopf initially completed an apprenticeship as an interior decorator , later he worked for the Federal Border Police as well as in children's homes and with the disabled. Then he decided to study to become a teacher and became a teacher at the secondary school in Soltau. During his 25 years of teaching at the school he was a. a. played a key role in founding the ShowPalast , the first and only student variety show in Germany.

After serving as a council member of the city of Soltau from 1991, Ruhkopf ran for mayoral election in 2006 and won a runoff election on September 24, 2006 with 66.9 percent of the vote against his predecessor Christa Erden ( CDU ). From November 2006 he was mayor of Soltau for eight years. His term of office ended on October 31, 2014, and he announced early on that he did not want to run for a second term. His successor was Helge Röbbert .
