Wilhelm Scheiner (born July 2, 1852 in Siegen , † November 6, 1922 in Cologne-Deutz ) was a German painter and photographer .

Wilhelm Scheiner was born in Siegen in 1852 as the son of the landscape painter Jakob Scheiner (1820–1911) from Sohlbach . He moved to Cologne with his parents in 1854 when he was two years old . After four years in the army, he was declared unfit for army service in 1875 due to physical deficits and then began his preparatory semester at the Polytechnic in Aachen . Although Scheiner originally wanted to become a mechanical engineer, he quickly switched to the fields of chemistry and metallurgy . After completing his training, Scheiner worked at the Rolandshütte in Weidenau , the Friedrichshütte in Herdorf and finally from 1878 to 1882 in the Charlottenhütte in Niederschelden as technical manager. For health reasons he gave up his job in 1881, moved to his parents in Cologne-Deutz and devoted himself to the fine arts. He died there in 1922.

The artistic work of the commissioned artist Wilhelm Scheiner can be classified in the context of vedute painting , as it was especially important for the 19th century . The subjects of his pictures were city views of Siegen and Cologne . Also industrial painting is one of his works. Together with his father Jakob Scheiner , 850 sheets have been identified today. Scheiner sometimes used photographs for his watercolor works , but mainly technical drawings are the basis of his works.
