Wilhelm Wegehaupt (born February 13, 1845 in Breslau , † January 5, 1917 in Hamburg ) was a German classical philologist and grammar school director.

Wilhelm Wegehaupt attended the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau, where he passed the final exam on March 24, 1863. He then studied classical philology, German , geography and history at the universities of Breslau and Leipzig . On December 26, 1867, he passed the teaching examination in Breslau and began his preparatory service at New Year 1868, first in the Realschule am Zwinger, from Easter 1868 as a candidate and administrator of a senior teacher position at the Maria Magdalenen Gymnasium, from Easter 1869 as an assistant teacher. On September 1, he was employed there as a permanent collaborator; later he was promoted to full teacher. From 1870 he was also a member of the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culture .

On April 1, 1878 Wegehaupt left his Silesian homeland and went to the Mönchen-Gladbach grammar school as a senior teacher . On July 1, 1881, he was appointed director of the grammar school in Neuwied . On April 1, 1890, he switched to the high school in Kiel , and on April 1, 1892, finally to the Wilhelm high school in Hamburg. There he was active, among other things, in the debate about school reform as an advocate of the humanistic grammar school. During his 20-year term of office, the number of students increased steadily, so that an extension was necessary for the natural science subjects (inaugurated in 1908). Wegehaupt also received the title of professor in Hamburg.

Wegehaupt retired at Easter 1912. In the same year the University of Wroclaw awarded him an honorary doctorate in philosophy on the occasion of its 100th anniversary . His son Hans Wegehaupt (1872–1914), who was known as the Plutarch researcher, died in the First World War .

Wegehaupt published some treatises on the republican history of Rome as well as school editions of Livy and Horace .
