Wilhelm Westenberger (born April 10, 1903 in Kastel ; † December 9, 1980 in Mainz ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Mainz , Westenberger began studying law and political science in Frankfurt am Main , Munich and Gießen , which he completed in 1926 with the first state examination and in 1930 with the second state examination. From 1932 he worked as a lawyer in Mainz.

Westenberger was a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Badenia (Strasbourg) Frankfurt am Main , KDStV Aenania Munich and KDStV Burgundia Munich, all in CV .

Political party

After the Second World War , Westenberger joined the CDU and was elected chairman of the CDU district association Mainz-Stadt in 1952.

MP

Westenberger was a council member of the city of Mainz and chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there. From 1955 to 1963 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament .

Public offices

On May 19, 1959, Westenberger was appointed Minister of Justice to succeed Bruno Becher in the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate led by Prime Minister Peter Altmeier . On May 18, 1963, he left the government and was replaced as Minister of Justice by Fritz Schneider .
