Carl Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt (also: Wilhelm von Ahlefeld) (* 1818 ; † February 5, 1897 ) was landlord of the noble estate Treuholz and provost of the Uetersen monastery .

Life

He was first police chief in Schleswig from 1848 to 1852 and district administrator and mayor in the duchies until 1872 . Then he became a real secret council and member of the government in Plön. From 1872 to 1895, von Ahlefeldt was state director and governor of the province of Schleswig-Holstein and was also responsible for the state library. For 23 years, until his death, he was President of the Society for Schleswig-Holstein History, where he was instrumental in researching the state's history. Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt published previously unknown historical documents and document collections.

Provost to Uetersen

On July 22, 1863, Ahlefeldt was elected provost of the monastery in Uetersen . A few months after he took office, the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein were incorporated into the Prussian state as the province of Schleswig-Holstein. Uetersen Monastery was no longer subject to the royal government in Copenhagen, but to the government in Berlin. On January 13, 1870, Uetersen was raised to town, and now tried to connect to the railway station of the Altona-Kiel Railway Company in Tornesch and planned a separate horse-drawn tram from there to Uetersen, after which the carters and grain traders who were around Shops feared that they had prevented a direct connection to the railway line. The Uetersen monastery provost commissioned his monastery syndic Carl Friedrich Hermann Klenze to look after the interests of the monastery. During the negotiations with the railway company, it was very quickly recognized which unique opportunity the city had not used and, together with Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt, they tried to convince the railway company to turn the route to Uetersen after all, although they were already there the construction of the rail line had started. However, the efforts were unsuccessful. Due to the unsuccessful negotiations with the Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, he supported the construction of the Uetersen horse-drawn railway together with the agricultural scientist Ludwig Meyn and the then mayor Ernst-Heinrich Meßtorff and became the first chairman of this joint-stock company . Wilhelm von Ahlefeldt strongly advocated the acquisition of shares in this stock corporation "because it was due consideration to participate in a company that will contribute significantly to the prosperity of that place". Von Ahlefeldt was the monastery provost in Uetersen until February 1, 1891, his successor was Otto von Moltke .
