Wilhelm Anton Justin von Rauchhaupt (born June 26, 1828 in Trebnitz an der Saale , † April 26, 1894 in Storkwitz ) was a German administrative lawyer and manor owner in the Kingdom of Prussia . He was a co-founder of the German Conservative Party and supported Otto von Bismarck .

Life

Wilhelm von Rauchhaupt began to study law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . When he was inactive , he moved to the local Friedrichs University in Halle .

As a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Saxony , Rauchhaupt was chairman of the Provincial Committee from 1887 to 1894. As a member of the Conservative and German Conservative Party, he sat in the Prussian House of Representatives in 1866/67, 1870–1873 and 1877–1893 . From February to August 1867, Rauchhaupt also sat in the constituent Reichstag of the North German Confederation . In 1870/71 he took part in the Franco-German War .

After the founding of the German Empire in 1872 he co-founded the new conservative parliamentary group in the House of Representatives. In contrast to the old conservative parliamentary group, in which Otto von Bismarck's opponents set the tone, the new parliamentary group with 45 members, including Bernhard von Bismarck as well as Rauchhaupt , was close to the government. In 1876 he became chairman of the parliamentary group. In addition, Rauchhaupt was also the finance and tax expert in this group.

Also in 1876, Rauchhaupt played a key role in founding the German Conservative Party. Like the new conservative faction, it stood on the soil of the Reich, supported Bismarck's course and represented agricultural interests. Between 1887 and 1890 he was also a member of the Reichstag and also chairman of the German conservative parliamentary group there. In the course of the gradual abolition of the Kulturkampf Laws , Rauchhaupt fell into isolation in his party at times.
