Wilhelm zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg
Wilhelm Paul Ludwig zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg (born March 19, 1817 in Stuttgart , † March 10, 1887 in Karlsruhe ) was a German nobleman and fourth prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg .
origin
The noble family of those zu Löwenstein goes back to the Wittelsbacher Friedrich I, the victorious , elector of the Palatinate (1425–1476), whose children from his morganatic marriage with Clara Tott were not entitled to inheritance in their own dynasty, which is why they formed an independent noble family . With the death of Count Ludwig III. von Löwenstein in 1611 the two main lines emerged, the Evangelical line Löwenstein-Wertheim-Virneburg (later Freudenberg) and the Catholic line Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort (later Rosenberg).
Life
Prince Wilhelm was born on March 19, 1817. He was the son of Count Wilhelm, since 1812 prince, of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg (1783–1847) from his marriage to Dorothea Christine von Kahlden (1791–1862), daughter of Hans Adam von Kahlden. Prince Wilhelm received a humanistic education from private teachers in Geneva and Dresden. He studied law, economics, philosophy and art history at the University of Bonn . He shared an apartment in Bonn with his friend Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . He then studied at the University of Berlin and decided to work in the diplomatic service. Initially he worked in the Prussian Foreign Ministry in Berlin before he came to London in 1840 as a legation secretary. He was then appointed secretary of the Prussian legation in Lisbon , from where he also made trips to Spain and Morocco. Because of the revolutionary unrest of 1848 he quit diplomatic service and went back to his parents' house in Dresden, where he married his first wife in 1852. He lived with her on the princely estate at Patzau in Bohemia until 1856 and then became a member of the Prussian legation in Bavaria .
With the death of his predecessor Adolf, Prince Wilhelm became the new Prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg on August 9, 1861. As a Baden registrar, Wilhelm had a seat and vote in the First Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly and was president of this chamber from 1861 to 1863. In addition, since 1861 he was also a member of the First Chambers in Bavaria , Hessen-Darmstadt and Württemberg .
Prince Wilhelm died in Karlsruhe on March 10, 1887, nine days before his seventieth birthday.
