Willem Koekkoek
Willem Koekkoek (born January 3, 1839 in Amsterdam , Kingdom of the Netherlands , † January 29, 1895 in Nieuwer-Amstel (now Amstelveen ), Kingdom of the Netherlands) was a Dutch landscape and marine painter .
Life
Willem Koekkoek came from the Dutch artist family Koekkoek . He was the second son of the marine painter Hermanus Koekkoek the elder and grandson of the painter Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek . His brothers were Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger , Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekkoek and Hendrik Barend Koekkoek . His father followed the family tradition and introduced his sons to painting. Koekkoek also received training as an architect , but was only active as such for a short time.
Koekkoek painted from 1854 to 1878, first in The Hague , then until 1880 in Nieuwer-Amstel and from 1885 to 1888 in London .
On November 16, 1866, Koekkoek married Johanna Hermina . Their sons Hermanus Willem Koekkoek (1867) and Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek the Younger (1873) come from their relationship , both of whom were also instructed in painting by their father.
Works (selection)
Like his father and brothers, Koekkoek is known for landscapes, marine and city and village views. His paintings show both summer and winter moods.

Exhibitions
- 1859, Leeuwarden
- 1865–1894, annual exhibitions at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten Amsterdam, the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten Den Haag and the Willem de Kooning Academie Rotterdam . During this time he also exhibited in private galleries in London.
- Some of Koekkoek's work is shown today at the Amsterdam Museum , the Atkinson Art Gallery Collection in Southport , United Kingdom , the UK Government Art Collection, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the National Gallery in London.
