Koekkoek (family)

The Dutch Koekkoek family produced seventeen painters over five generations (1778–1989).

Many of the artists who came from the family dedicated themselves to romantic landscape and marine painting . Her works are shown in international museums. The BC Koekkoek house in Kleve has been a museum for the family's work since 1960.

Genealogical representation (painter only)

  1. Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek (1778–1851), marine painter, progenitor, married to Anna van Koolwijk , their daughter was Anna Koekkoek (* 1812).
    Her four sons became painters:
    1. Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803–1862) landscape painter, married to Elise Thérèse Daiwaille ;
      two of her five daughters became painters:
      1. Adèle Koekkoek (1838–1919), née Adelaide Alexandrine, painter of still lifes and landscapes;
      2. Maria Louise Koekkoek (1840–1910), landscape painter;
    2. Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek the Elder (1807–1868), landscape painter;
      his son was:
      1. Pieter Hendrik Koekkoek (1843–1890 or 1910), landscape painter;
    3. Johannes Koekkoek (1811–1831), marine and landscape painter;
    4. Hermanus Koekkoek the Elder (1815–1882), marine and landscape painter, had three daughters Anna Elisabeth (* 1842), Elisabeth Johanna Maria (* 1845) and Johanna Maria (* 1848) and four sons:
      1. Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger (1836–1909), marine and landscape painter;
        his son was:
        1. Stephen Robert Koekkoek (1887–1934), landscape painter, Post-Impressionist, married to Nella Azzoni , one son;
      2. Willem Koekkoek (1839–1895), marine and landscape painter, married to Johanna Hermina ;
        her sons were:
        1. Hermanus Willem Koekkoek (1867–1929), military, landscape and marine painter, draftsman, watercolorist and illustrator, had a daughter with Louise Johannah de Layen :
          1. Louise Hermina Carry May Koekkoek (1898–1989), sculptor and painter;
        2. Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek the Younger (1873–1944), animal and landscape painter;
          his son was:
          1. Cornelis Koekkoek (1903–1982), painter, lithographer and graphic artist, later convicted Nazi propagandist
      3. Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekkoek (1840–1912), marine painter;
        his son was:
        1. Gerard Johannes Koekkoek (1871–1956), marine painter;
      4. Barend Hendrik Koekkoek (1849–1889 or 1909), landscape painter, married to Carolina Allardina Cornelia Pierson (1854 – before 1909).
