from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pieter Hendrik Koekkoek (born January 13, 1843 in Hilversum , Kingdom of the Netherlands , † 1890 or 1910 probably in England , United Kingdom ) was a Dutch landscape painter .

Life

Pieter Hendrik came from the Dutch Koekkoek family of painters . The artist was the only son of the painter Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek the elder and grandson of the painter Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek . Following family tradition, he was instructed in painting by his father. In the 1860s and 1870s he painted mainly landscapes and forest scenes in his father's romantic style ; later his style became more realistic.

Koekkoek lived in Amsterdam from 1848 to 1850 . He then worked in London , where his nephew Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger ran an art trade. Pieter Hendrik sold a large part of his work here. In 1866 he moved to The Hague and stayed there until 1877 when he returned to Amsterdam. The city's official population registers kept him up to June 21, 1889, after which he is lost. The literature suggests that he died in England in 1890 or 1910.

Koekkoek usually signed his pictures with HP Koekkoek . He was the teacher of the painter Jan Ponstijn .
