On October 7, 2016, the ship ran aground in heavy seas between the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst and the Danish island of Falster . The Joint Rescue Coordination Center Aarhus took over the rescue coordination . Due to strong winds and stormy seas, the ship could not initially be towed free. On October 10, 2016, the rescue teams feared that the outer skin of the ship would not be able to withstand the enormous loads that the hull structure caused by the ground contact . The ship's crew stayed on board. On the night of October 11, 2016, the ship was successfully towed free by a rescue team.
