Willem van Heemskerck (born April 6, 1718 in The Hague ; † August 28, 1784 in Amsterdam ) was an imperial count , army of Achttienhoven and Den Bosch , regent of Amsterdam , administrator and politician.

He came from the dynasty of the Imperial Count Van Heemskerck . His parents were Count Mr. Jan Henry van Heemskerck and Anna Petronella van Schuylenburch . His sister Antoinette Coenradine van Heemskerck (1725–1775) became the wife of Franco Pauw . He became Schepen of Amsterdam in 1744 . In the same year he married Hadewina Antonia Backer (1717–1764). He was a councilor in the Vroedschap between 1753 and 1784. Between 1757 and 1759 he was a deputy in the Raad van State , between 1763 and 1765 in the States General . In 1766 Van Heemskerck married his relative Cornelia Jacoba van Schuylenburch (1727–1798). Both marriages have remained childless.

In 1769 he became one of the leaders ( Bewindhebber ) of the Amsterdam Chamber of the Dutch East India Company . He was mayor of Amsterdam in 1770, 1775, 1778 and 1783 . Other offices were those of councilors in the Admiralty of Amsterdam , captain of the Civil Guard , reeve and reeve of Watergraafs- and Diemer sea. In 1775 he was enfeoffed by the city of Amsterdam with the ambitiousness of Sloten and Sloterdijk.
