The Willi-Merkl-Gedächtnis-Hütte (or Willi-Merkl-Hütte for short ) is an Alpine Club hut of the Friedberg section of the German Alpine Club .
location
The Willi-Merkl-Hütte is located in the rear Reintal in the Tannheimer Mountains , a subgroup of the Allgäu Alps , in the municipality of Musau in the Reutte district in Tyrol / Austria .
history
The hut was built from 1930 to 1931 by the Augsburg section of the German Alpine Club in the immediate vicinity of the Otto Mayr hut , which belongs to the same section. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the section, it was given the name "Jubiläumshütte". In honor of section member Willi Merkl , who died in the German Himalayan Expedition in 1934 , the hut was renamed in his name.
In 1959, the care of the hut was handed over to the Friedberg local group of the Augsburg section , founded in 1952 , which became an independent section of the DAV in 1977 and acquired the hut completely from the Augsburgers in 2000.
Ascent
There are several ways to get to the hut:
- Direct access is from the valley town of Musau ( 821 m ) on a small mountain path to the armpit , from which you have a beautiful view of the Lech Valley. From there you can take forest roads over the Musauer Alm (refreshment stops) to a junction, from which a path leads to the hut (total walking time about 2 to 2½ hours).
- From Grän (1138 m) in the Tannheimer Tal you can get to the hut via the Füssener Jöchl ( 1818 m ). The ascent can be shortened by using the cable car to the Füssener Jöchl (total walking time about 2½ hours without or about 1 hour with use of the cable car).
- A forest road leads from Vils ( 826 m ) to the Vilser Alpe ( 1225 m , refreshment stops). From there you can take a mountain trail over the Vilser Scharte ( 1815 m ) to the Otto Mayr Hut. In front of the Vilser Scharte, the path is secured with ropes and two ladders and is only recommended for sure-footed mountaineers (total walking time approx. 3½ hours).
- From Nesselwängle (1147 m) via Nesselwängler Scharte (walking time approx. 4 hours)
summit
Some of the surrounding peaks of the Tannheimer Berge can be climbed from the Willi-Merkl-Hütte. For children from the age of six, for example, the Große Schlicke ( 2059 m , walking time: 1½ hours) is suitable. Another summit destination is the Schartschrofen ( 1968 m , walking time: 1½ hours). Challenging tours are the ascent of the Roten Flüh ( 2111 m , walking time: 2 hours), the Gimpel ( 2176 m , walking time: 3 hours) or the Gehrenspitze ( 2164 m , walking time: 3½ hours). The highest mountain in the Tannheimer Berge, the Kellenspitze ( 2238 m ), can be reached in four hours.
