Willi Born (born July 19, 1950 - July 7, 1970 in Bergfelde ) was a victim of the Berlin Wall . When the man doing military service was arrested by members of the GDR border troops while trying to escape from the GDR , he committed suicide .

Life

Willi Born was the oldest of his mother's seven children and grew up in Klein-Marzehns. After his mother's death, he lived temporarily in a children's home . He then moved to Lindow to live with his second married father. After his school days he completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural technician . He worked as a tractor driver for LPG in Lindow . After his wedding in 1969, he and his wife moved to Velten north of Berlin.

From 1970 he had to do military service in the National People's Army. He served in the Motorized Rifle Regiment 1 (MSR-1; 1st MSD ), which was stationed in Oranienburg . On July 7, 1970, he withdrew from his unit with his service weapon and went to Bergfelde. When his disappearance was discovered, a wanted message was sent to the armed organs of the GDR . The border guards at the nearby border have been informed.

Around 10:30 am discovered a border post Willi Born in the border area, as this the hinterland Wall on climbing, filed a report and had two shots at the flags refugee from without hitting him. Willi Born ran to cover in a forest strip between the hinterland wall and the signal fence was on the territory of the GDR. Border guards took up the chase and combed the border area. Willi Born killed himself around 10.45 a.m. with a shot from his AK-47 in the head.

Willi Born was buried in Lindow, his father's hometown.
