Willi Gutmann (born December 2, 1927 in Dielsdorf , Canton of Zurich ; † February 21, 2013 in Oberhasli , Canton of Zurich) was a Swiss sculptor .

Live and act

Willi Gutmann began his career as an architect and designer, but switched to the profession of sculptor in 1965. For most of his sculptures Gutmann used metals and alloys that he transformed in various ways. Gutmann specialized in monumental sculptures based on incoherent, mobile bodies. Gutmann sculptures can be found in the USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan and throughout Europe.

Gutmann represented Switzerland in the Route of Friendship at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City . His work, Twin Circles Geared Together, is on display in the Mervis Hall of the University of Pittsburgh . His work Big Orange is exhibited at the University of Houston . The largest of his sculptures, Two Columns with Wedge, from 1971, is 24 meters high and is located in the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco.
