William Abraham (General)

William Ernest Victor "WEVA" Abraham , Kt , CBE (born August 21, 1897 - February 6, 1980 ) was a British major general in the British Army , geologist and economic manager .

Life

Abraham completed after visiting the Methodist College Belfast to study geology at the Royal College of Science for Ireland in Dublin and was then from 1920 to 1937 as a geologist for the Burmah Oil Company Limited in Burma and British India operates. He also appeared in 1920 in the British Volunteer Army in Burma (Burma Auxiliary Force) and was 1927 to lieutenant , 1930 to lieutenant in 1932 to captain and in 1933 for Major transported. After his promotion to lieutenant colonel in 1933, he was commander of the Upper Burma Battalion of the Burma Auxiliary Force from 1933 to 1938 . After he was promoted to honorary colonel in 1937 , he retired from the service of this volunteer unit in 1938.

After his subsequent return to Great Britain, Abraham joined the Army Officers' Emergency Reserve and was assigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion of the King's Royal Rifle Corps in 1938 . After Great Britain entered the Second World War , he was called to active military service in 1940 and was initially a lieutenant in the Royal Engineers . Shortly thereafter, he was a graduate of a course for staff officers at the Staff College Minley Manor and found after the end of 1940, first used as a staff captain in the War Department ( War Office ) , where he was in 1941 assistant to the Quartermaster General for troop movements since 20 June.

After his promotion to major in military service (War Substantive Major) and the temporary rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) on September 20, 1941, Abraham was transferred to the staff of General Archibald Percival Wavell , who was initially Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East (Commander- in-Chief Middle East Command) and then commander in chief in India (Commander-in-Chief in India) was. Most recently, during the Second World War in 1945, he was General Controller of the Military Economy at Army Headquarters in British India.

After the war, Abraham resumed his employment with the Burmah Oil Company Limited and retired in 1955 as its managing director. Between 1961 and 1970 he was lay judge at the Restrictive Practices Court and from 1962 to 1977 chairman of the veterans' organization (Burma Star Association) , of which he subsequently became vice-president for life. On June 10, 1977 he was beaten to Knight Bachelor (Kt) and has since had the addition of "Sir".

Abraham's son Thomas Edwin Bidwell Abraham was married to Juliet Jane Margaretta Moynihan, daughter of Patrick Moynihan, 2nd Baron Moynihan .
