William D'Souza

William D'Souza SJ (born March 5, 1946 in the parish of Madanthar, Diocese of Mangalore ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop.

Life

William D'Souza attended elementary school in his hometown and high school at St. Aloysius High School in Mangalore . In 1965 he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus and studied philosophy in Shembanagur and theology in Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune , India. On May 3, 1976, he was ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus.

After his ordination , he held the following offices: assistant to the novice master (1977–1978), pastor and teacher at the secondary school and in the parish of Ara (Patna), superior of the Jesuit community in Ara and prefect of the youth hostel (1978–1980), rector of the Minor Seminary in Muzaffarpur (1981–1986), pastor in Chuhari in the diocese of Bettiah (1986–1989), pastor in Bettiah and superior of the Jesuit community of the W. Champaran district (1989–1992); Pastor in Muzaffarpur, secretary of the bishop and administrator of the diocese in his absence , superior of the Jesuit community in Muzaffarpur (1992–1995), provincial superior of the Jesuits in Patna province (1995–2001), pastor of Our Lady of Fatima parish in Itarhi (Buxar district ) (since 2001).

On December 12, 2005 he was appointed the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Buxar in India in a part of the Archdiocese of Patna . He was ordained bishop on March 25, 2006 by the Apostolic Nuncio in India, Archbishop Pedro López Quintana , co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Patna Benedict John Osta and John Baptist Thakur , Bishop of Muzaffarpur .

On October 1, 2007, William D'Souza was named Archbishop of Patna.
