William Mervyn

William Mervyn (born January 3, 1912 in Nairobi , Kenya , † August 6, 1976 in London , England ) was a British actor .

Life

Mervyn began his career in the theater . In 1946 he made his West End debut at the Criterion Theater . The following year he was given a film role for the first time. In 1950 he starred opposite Paul Scofield , Margaret Rutherford , Claire Bloom and Mona Washbourne in Ring Round the Moon at the Globe Theater in London . In 1956 he appeared at the Saville Theater in London with Laurence Harvey and Michael Medwin in The Rivals . At the beginning of the 1950s he began to work increasingly for television. Although he also appeared in well-known films such as Captain Seekrank and The 39 Steps , his roles were mostly subordinate and sometimes he remained unnamed in the credits. His television roles included four episodes in the Doctor Who series as well as guest roles in Die 2 and Randall & Hopkirk - Detective Agency with Spirit, among others . In the 1970s, he appeared in three films from the Ist ja crazy series.

The German-speaking audience is most likely to find Mervyn in his role as Commander Breeze-Connington in the Miss Marple film adaptation of Murderer ahoy! known. There he gives Margaret Rutherford a fencing match towards the end of the film after she was able to reveal him as a murderer.

Mervyn was married and had two sons.
