With them he came closer and closer to the ideas of the religious socialism founded by Leonhard Ragaz . From 1982 to 1990 he was a member of the Küsnacht municipal council , where he was head of the welfare and guardianship system. In 1991 he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council; from 1996 until his resignation in 2001 he presided over the social democratic group. Player was heavily involved in the development of the Social Democratic Party's new party program, which was adopted in 2010 and which took up a number of impulses from him in its emphasis on economic democracy . His partner was the child psychotherapist Yvonne Häberli (+13 August 2018 Zurich). Player died of cancer in February 2016 at the age of 78 .
