Sandra Windland "Wendy" Smith Rice (* 1970 - May 31, 2005 in Memphis , Tennessee ) was an American photographer and actress .

life and career

Windland "Wendy" Smith Rice was born to Frederick W. Smith , founder of FedEx , and Linda Grisham Smith McFarland , the eldest child . She still had five sisters and three brothers. In 1973, her father named his first FedEx plane "Wendy" after her.

Windland Smith attended St Mary's Episcopal School in Memphis in the US state of Tennessee , which now has a school complex named after her. In 1992 she graduated from Duke University with a degree in Drama.

Her wildlife and wildlife photography talent has been recognized by organizations such as Fujifilm , the National Geographic Society, and outstanding wildlife and wildlife magazines. Her work has won several awards and been in the Smithsonian Museum belonging to National Museum of Natural History in DC Washington, issued. The annual Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards are named after her.

In the 1990s she worked under the alternative name Windlind Smith as an actress in small supporting roles in some films and series such as New York Cops - NYPD Blue , Highway Heat and Love Is All There Is .

Windland Smith Rice died unexpectedly in 2005 of QT syndrome , a genetic disease of the heart. The enthusiastic triathlete and marathon runner was married to Jeffrey Scott Rice and the mother of two sons, born in 2003 and 2004. The family lived in Jackson Hole , a valley in the US state of Wyoming .

A few weeks after Windland Smith Rice's death, her sister Molly Smith read the successful novel PS I Love You by the Irish writer Cecelia Ahern . She read the novel several times and decided to make a film. Her father contributed some of the funding. The 2007 film PS I Love You with Hilary Swank , Gerard Butler and Kathy Bates in the lead roles was dedicated to Windland Smith Rice.
