Windhole (Flensburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Windloch ( Danish Vejrgab , Angel Danish Væegaf ) is a place in Flensburg - Engelsby , which, next to Engelsby-Dorf, is the second nucleus of the Engelsby district.

location

Windloch, which today belongs to the Engelsby district, is located in the north-eastern part of Engelsbyer Straße, from house number 66 to approx Street were assigned to Engelsbyer Straße by house number. The first houses on Neuer Weg street, up to about Windloch street, are also in the Windloch area. Directly south of Windloch is the Musikerviertel , to the east the Sternenviertel and the town of Twedt .

background

The village of Windloch , which was first mentioned in 1697 and whose remains are in the Engelsby district, used to be located right next to Engelsby . The former houses of Windloch can still be recognized today by the fact that they are not facing the street. There are still some old thatched roof houses . The name Windloch could possibly come from the location of the old Dorfkrugkate. It used to stand free in the landscape, was only surrounded by fields and was therefore exposed to the east wind. In 1825 Windloch had just 13 residents. From 1886 the circular route coming from Flensburg stopped at the aforementioned Dorfkrug. In 1910 Engelsby (to which Windloch was already a part) was incorporated into Flensburg and has since expanded considerably. In 1953 the circular path was discontinued.

Special buildings

The current maintenance statute for wind hole was integrated into the corresponding development plan.

  • Engelsyber Straße 66 : The building of the former Dorfkrug Windloch, which later served as the “Pony” disco and most recently as the “San Remo” restaurant, burned down in 2013. In 2014 the fire ruin was torn down and replaced by a new building.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 71 : a 1903-built house in the form of a two-storey building panel with so-called Kieler roof, a pent roof having a mansard provides the street. A general store with a post office was located there from the late 1920s to the late 1950s. In 1958 the shop moved to the old smithy No. 75.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 73 : The thatched cottage probably comes from the second half of the 18th century. The house, together with the two houses No. 75 a – b and No. 81, probably belonged to a farm. Today the Kate serves as a twin house.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 75 : A forge has been established there from the beginning of the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was increased by one floor. After that, the building served as a joinery. In 1958 the old forge was finally completely rebuilt. The general store and post office from No. 71 moved there and existed until the 1970s.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 75 from : A group of houses consisting of two houses, the core of which presumably also dates from the second half of the 18th century. The two houses together with No. 73 and No. 81 probably belonged to a farm. The two houses 75 a – b are now used for residential purposes. No. 75a still has a thatched roof house.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 76 : a house that was built in the middle of the 19th century. In the 20th century it was used as a hacking shop .
  • Engelsbyer Straße 81 : Thatched house, the core of which probably dates back to the second half of the 18th century. It probably belonged to a farm with no. 73 and 75 a – b.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 82 : an old cottage that has been heavily rebuilt. It has been used as a bakery since the end of the 19th century.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 85 : From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 1960s, there was a slaughterhouse and shop in the house.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 88 : The house was a cobbler's shop from 1896 to 1927 . From 1935 to 1962 there was a carpentry shop in the building.
  • Engelsbyer Straße 89 : an apartment building built in 1905
  • Engelsbyer road 92 : one in 1906 for the Superintendent of Twedt built house
