Engelsby-Dorf ( Danish : Landsby Engelsby ) is a place in Flensburg , on the edge of the Osbectal , whose only street bears the same name. Engelsby village is indeed the village preserved nucleus of the district Engelsby , but an official for the district Mürwik .

background

The village of Engelsby was first mentioned in 1445, but at that time without the addition of "village", because the ending -by actually means something like "village" (or larger settlement). Since “Engel” is probably a family name, the name “Engelsby” as a whole obviously means “Angel Village”. In 1825, just 17 people lived in Engelsby. In 1840 there were just five independent farms and eleven cottages there. At that time the village was still part of the Adelby parish . After the circular route coming from Flensburg stopped at the Dorfkrug near Windloch from 1886, Flensburg residents built villas there, so that a “new Engelsby”, today's Engelsby district, grew up in the direct vicinity.

On April 1, 1910, Twedt , Twedter Holz , Fruerlund and the entire Engelsby were incorporated. Since then, the original Engelsby and the newly created Engelsby including the wind hole have belonged to the city of Flensburg. As a result of the establishment of the Flensburg-Mürwik base , the city grew increasingly in the east of the city. But the original village of Engelsby grew only marginally. The village street of the old farming village, which was initially simply called “Engelsby”, was given the addition “village” sometime after the incorporation. At some point in the 20th century, a new administrative division was also introduced, which led to Engelsby-Dorf being assigned to the Mürwik district and not the Engelsby district. In the case of the division in question, the course was obviously based on the north road , so that areas north of this were added to the Mürwik district.

Special buildings

Nowadays new buildings are not approved in the village area, the village enjoys ensemble protection. The current conservation statute for Engelsby-Dorf was integrated into the corresponding development plan.

  • Engelsby-Dorf 1 : A small, old thatched roof cottage. It is possible that there was a connection between this and a windmill that was once located to the west and operated there between 1845 and 1853. (In 1854 the windmill was moved to Sonderburg .)
  • Engelsby-Dorf 2 : The farm belonged to a Jes Nielsen in 1450, who gave it to St. Mary's Church in Flensburg .
  • Engelsby-Dorf 3 : One-storey brick house, on the narrow eastern side of which a farm building was laid out in 1901.
  • Engelsby-Dorf 5 : Wide-spread farmhouse in the shape of an Angelner cross- floor house, which was probably built in the first half of the 19th century.
  • Engelsby-Dorf 7 : Homestead consisting of three buildings:
    • a residential building from the 19th century
    • a stable building that replaced a barn in 1908
    • a farm building, which was probably also built at the beginning of the 20th century.
  • Engelsby-Dorf 9 : An old reed roof house with plastered brickwork.
  • Engelsby-Dorf 11 : A farm that has apparently been owned by the Mangelsen family for several decades. In the early 1950s, the Mangelsen family apparently owned large agricultural areas in Fruerlund , which, however, apparently, at least for the most part, were sold at the time to be built over afterwards.

various

  • In midsummer the plants bloom in the cottage gardens of the village of Engelsby. Cornfields then grow all around the village.
  • The Osbek rises near Engelsby-Dorf.
  • The Engelsbyer Weg begins at the edge of Engelsby-Dorf and leads through the Osbekttal to the Ansgarviertel and Klosterholz .
  • The Engelsby Village area has been part of the inner-city Green Horseshoe hiking trail since 2014. The hiking trail leads from Ballastkai up through Lautrupsbach valley to the Engelsby village area. From there it leads over the Engelsbyer Weg into the Osbektal, and finally ends at Sonwik .
  • The term Alt-Engelsby describes in a narrower sense the original Engelsby, i.e. Engelsby village. Since the substance of the building on Engelsbyer Straße, which arose after the circular path was set up, is now also considered old, it is partly also included in Alt-Engelsby, but not in Engelsby-Dorf.
  • In the early 2000s, the development of Fruerlund approached the Engelsby village.
  • In the course of the construction of the Osttangente (around 2006), Engelsby-Dorf received a high noise barrier.
