In Flensburg , fire protection , technical assistance and a large part of the rescue service are provided by the professional fire brigade and the six volunteer fire brigades . The basis for this is the Fire Protection Act and the Rescue Service Act.

Professional fire brigade

The professional fire brigade was set up in 1904 and housed in the former officers' mess in the government courtyard. In mid-February 1954, she got her new fire station at Munketoft 16 in the Südstadt district .

Nowadays it provides a full-time fire and rescue station. The professional fire brigade is also a branch of the Flensburg town hall . The professional fire brigade housed the "Florian Flensburg" control center until the end of 2009 , which has since been replaced by the northern regional control center in Harrislee . In the rescue service, the professional fire brigade and the independent company Promedica are equal partners. Promedica is based in the East Ambulance Station in the Mürwik district . The rescue service of the professional fire brigade is stationed in the fire station near the train station and on the edge of the Südstadt district . However, the emergency doctor from the St. Franziskus Hospital in the Duburg district starts on the missions. Since July 2015 there has been a third ambulance station on federal highway 200 to ensure better coverage of the western areas.

Due to contractual agreements, the area of responsibility of the rescue service also includes part of the Schleswig-Flensburg district and the Danish parish of Bov .

In 2016, the professional fire brigade drove a total of 28,913 rescue services. Of these, 14,454 were emergency missions with an MZF and 2,929 with NEF and 11,435 patient transports. 95 missions were made in Denmark .

In 2017, the planning for a new construction of the professional fire brigade at the location of the old indoor swimming pool was in progress. In addition to the professional fire brigade, the volunteer fire brigade Jürgensby and the Flensburg city fire brigade association will then be housed in the old fire station. So far, the city fire brigade association resides in the old office manager villa on the site.
