The Kiel fire brigade comprises the professional fire brigade and ten volunteer fire brigades from the Schleswig-Holstein state capital, Kiel .

history

The first voluntary fire brigade in Kiel was established in 1861, possibly as a late aftermath of the fire in Kiel Castle in 1838, based on the example of other gymnast fire brigades .

In 1887 a syringe house was built near the Kleiner Kiel and expanded to become the main fire station in the following years . In 1896 a professional fire brigade was set up, the volunteer fire brigades were retained.

The old main fire station was destroyed by bombs in an air raid on Kiel in 1945 , so in 1956 a new fire station was moved to its current location (Westring).

Until the end of 2011, the “M / S Kiel” was a fireboat stationed in the port of Kiel, the crew of which was mainly provided by the professional fire brigade.

In addition, there is the "Center for Training, Rescue Service, Disaster Control and Ambulance" in the Schreventeich district .

The main fire station also houses the integrated regional control center with responsibility for fire and rescue services in the city of Kiel and in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Plön districts. The professional fire brigade Kiel is represented in the working group of heads of professional fire brigades .
