Winfried Platzgummer
Winfried Platzgummer (born October 16, 1930 in Hofgastein ) is an Austrian legal scholar in the fields of criminal law , criminal procedure law and criminology . From 1979 to 1981 he was rector of the University of Vienna .
Life
Winfried Platzgummer was born in what was then Hofgastein (from 1936 Bad Hofgastein ) as the son of the Tyrolean state parliament president Adolf Platzgummer (1893–1951). His older brother was the Provincial of the Austrian Jesuits Helmut Platzgummer (1929-2017). Winfried Platzgummer studied law at the University of Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate in 1955. iur. PhD . He then worked as an assistant at the Institute for Criminal Science and from 1962 to 1965 trainee judge in Innsbruck . In 1964 he completed his habilitation under Friedrich Nowakowski in the fields of criminal law, criminal procedural law and criminology.
In 1965 he held a visiting professorship at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , in 1966 he was appointed associate professor for criminal law and criminal procedure law to the law and political science faculty of the University of Vienna , where he was appointed full professor in 1968. After the University Organization Act of 1975 (UOG 1975) came into force , he founded a joint institute for criminal law and criminology with the newly appointed professor of criminal law and criminology Manfred Burgstaller .
In the academic years 1975/76 and 1976/77 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law, in the academic years 1979/80 and 1980/81 he was elected Rector of the University of Vienna . In this function he was a board member of the University Association Alma Mater Rudolphina . He retired in 1999 and was succeeded as full professor by Wolfgang Brandstetter , later Minister of Justice and Vice Chancellor of the Republic of Austria , who had previously been Platzgummer's assistant from 1981. His work Basics of Austrian Criminal Procedure was published eight times between 1984 and 1997.
