Withering Surface was a Danish melodic death metal band from Naestved .
history
The band was founded in October 1994 and originally consisted of singer Michael H. Andersen, guitarists Jimmy Christensen and Allan Tvedebrink, bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen and drummer Jakob Gundel. A year later the band released Demo Unique , which was voted “Demo of the Year” by Danish national radio. Guitarist Jimmy Christensen was replaced by Heinz Schultz before the band released their debut album Scarlet Silhouettes in April 1997 via Euphonious Records . The album was produced by Frederik Nordström. As a guest musician, the then in-flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad contributed a guitar solo.
This was followed by a tour through Germany with Night in Gales and Purgatory , before Withering Surface had several line-up changes. Guitarist Heinz Schultz was replaced by Morten Ryberg, who also left the band a short time later. Drummer Jakob Gundel left the band after recording the second album The Nude Ballet and later played for Invocator . He was briefly replaced by Niels Jørgenson before Nikolaj Borg took over the drums. The Nude Ballet was released in November 1998 and was again produced by Frederik Nordström. Marcel Lech Lysgaard became the new second guitarist in 1999, but was replaced by Jacob Krogholt a year later. Another keyboard player, Morten Lybecker, was added to the band.
The third album Walking on Phantom Ice was released via Copro Records in October 2001 , produced by former Arch Enemy singer Johan Liiva, among others . In early 2003, Morten Lybecker and Nikolaj Borg left the band again, with Borg being replaced by Lukas Meier. A European tour with Iniquity followed . Remnants from the production of Walking on Phantom Ice were self-released in the same year with the EP Ichor . In late 2003, Nikolaj Borg returned and the musicians began work on the album Force the Pace , which was produced by Tue Madsen and released in January 2004 by Scarlet Records . In December 2004 the band announced their breakup. On February 26, 2005 Withering Surface played their last concert in Copenhagen . Kaspar Boye Larsen and Allan Tvedebrink then founded the band The Candidate .
