The Candidate is a Danish thrash metal band from Copenhagen and Aarhus , which was founded in 2005 under the name The Downward Candidate .

history

After the band Withering Surface broke up in 2004, the ex-members, guitarist Allen Tvedebrink and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen , together with drummer Dennis Buhl and singer Kim Orneborg founded the band The Downward Candidate in January 2005. Im The same year followed a first demo, which was recorded under the direction of Lars Mayland ( Konkhra , Furious Trauma ), before an EP followed in 2006. The release was followed by appearances with Entombed , Trap Them , Volbeat and Rotten Sound . In addition, Allan Tvedebrink was the new guitarist in the band. In summer 2010 the band played at the Roskilde Festival . In 2011 the group went to the recording studio Dead Rat of singer Bredahl. The singing was recorded under the direction of Tue Madsen . The album was released in 2012 under the name Facing the Imminent Prospect of Death on Napalm Records. In the same year the band went on tour through Europe , Russia and China .

According to laut.de, the band plays thrash metal with light hardcore punk influences on both their first demo and their debut album. On Iminent Prospect of Death the hardcore punk share has increased significantly. Thomas Strater from Metal Hammer described the band's music as a “mixture of groovy Thrash Metal with Death'n'Roll elements”. Singer Bredahl stated in an interview with Strater that the music was about "feeling down, not being yourself, dark thoughts about life and death".
